Guess who's travelling to New Zealand this year?!
Yes, that would be me and Maggieboo! <3
After weeks if not months of contemplation, we have decided to shoot for the stars and get that trip booked.
So far the plan is to travel New Zealand from the 27th December - 9th of January 2016, before heading on a 2 day layover in our current favourite city on earth, Melbourne, Australia!
You see, one of my closest girl friend is getting hitched in Penang early December and I was already planning a trip to Asia. But since I've "just" returned from Asia I personally wasn't too keen on staying there too long this time around.
So with my restless feet, and eagerness to see something else, I looked at the map and decided this year is going to be the year I'll head to New Zealand. Magnar and I have spoken multiple times about returning to Australia but we just never made it this far due to either work constraints, money, time, excuses in other words.
But I refuse to let myself fall into that trap where I build "wealth" but not doing what makes me(us) happy.
We only have one lifetime. And I am going to make the best out of it.
So I thought, and I thought, either going backpacking around Asia, embracing the unknown or returning to Oceania where I knew it was going to be amazing, we chose the latter.
After long deliberation (read : looked at the budget), we decided we have to return Down Under, even if it means skimping on pretty much everything else for almost a whole year! It was going to be worth it at the end.
And so here we are, tickets booked and holiday requests put in, our excitement is getting real! Yay.
Because the planned trip is a big one, and far away still, time wise we'll meet some obstacles on the way there I'm sure.
The biggest one would be seeing that both Magnar and I will be returning later in the year to school, we are very unsure about when exams will be. Oh well, we'll take that problem when that time comes! So there is a small chance the trip might fall through, but that is something completely out of our control. We'll just have to face it if when that problem comes.
Till then, its pure work and saving, for this trip is going to be EPIC.
Magnar and I are looking into spending 3 days in North Island, and the rest of the time in South Island, driving around a camper van, my head out the window, and visiting the sights of Milford Sounds, Rotorua? Waitaki, Lake Taupo, and ushering in the New Year in Queenstown.
We think New Zealand would remind us very much of Norway and Scotland. Norway because it's a country of immense beauty, and Scotland for it's sheep.
Our tickets were booked with Kilroy (again), I have had lots of very good experiences with them both in terms of pricing and help, will write a review of them if any of you are interested!
So yeah, we're excited, and if New Zealand is anything like Australia, then we know this trip is going to be so amazing, I'll talk about it till the end of my days! And to be able to do it all with the best travel buddy and my best friend ever is just beyond wonderful!
PS: The video below is I think threw Magnar over the fence and agreed to this trip. I too smile every time I think of it.
Please, leave me tips on what we should do in New Zealand if you have any!
We truly can't wait.
