Seeing that I had just been on 2 trips to America in 2014, I do occasionally get asked what am I doing in The States again in July 2015!
And here is the reason why!
The Special Olympics World Games are being held there this year!
I attended the Special Olympics World Games in Athens in 2011, and thought it was probably one of the best sporting event I have ever been too - Sure enough I don't go to that many, still.
We all know about The Olympics, and Paralympics but I like many others, forget that there is actually another whole group of athletes with mental disability that also should be allowed to compete as well!
When I attended the Games in 2011, I could not imagine how big of an event this is! And I have never even heard about it!
Los Angeles is expecting 7000 Athletes, from 177 countries, with over a half million spectators!
It is actually going to be one of the biggest sporting event this year, and that's why YOU should be there too!
I have a sister who is physically handicapped, and I am travelling to Los Angeles in support of #TeamRonaHjelmstad who is representing Norway in aquatics event.
I always come out looking at life much differently after being to events like this, we often get caught up with frivolous things and forget what's most important. So what if one is a little different? The spirit of the games is all the same in this Olympic or the next.
Like the slogan says,
"Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me brave in the attempt"
The fact that they are the way they are, is often not their fault, and people who often have a little less, always give a little more.
And we should be there in support! For they are amazing!
In any event, The Special Olympics is held this year in Los Angeles from July 25th to August 2nd!
I'm going, will you?
Seeing that we are there a little longer than the games itself, if you have any tips on what to do/see in California, leave me a comment!
