Before heading back to Norway we embarked on that 4 hour drive down to Key West, Florida.
I have heard so much wonderful things about Key West that I had to take that trip there.
Key West is such an interesting place, it is very unlike "mainland" Florida at all, the trees are a little different, people live a little bit more on island time, and the general vibe was very different, it was a pleasant surprise!
I can imagine that this is what it feels like in some of the islands in Caribbean?
Absolutely recommend it if you're in the Fort Lauderdale/Miami area to do that drive down. The drive down is absolutely stunning! - I slept for the most parts, but the parts I am awake for is definitely worth it.
The only part that I maybe have an aversion to was the fact that the beaches over in Key West was sub-par at best. There are much better, whiter, bluer beaches in Fort Lauderdale, that part was a little disappointing to say the least as Magnar wanted to end his trip to the beach.
Although Key West is mostly tourist area, with tons of food places the restaurants all operate at weird hours (shops closing in the middle of the day, dinner late) - refer to point above about island time, I guess? So that is something to keep a little in mind.
In any case, Key West is quite small that if you insist you can easily walk point to point quite easy. Keep in mind the July heat in Florida is intense! INTENSE, but if you were already strolling down the North end of the island, a bump into this restaurant. Go for it.
When we were there, it was the only restaurant sort of open, so it was bustling with people, the food took a while to get to the table.
This place was recommended to us by the dude that sold us our Jet Ski tickets, and we thought it was super delish - and quite cheap. And you get complimentary Key Lime pies with all meals! (we did anyways)
